Spanish prosecutor starts investigation into Catalan parliament to referendum
The Spanish prosecutor’s office last Thursday, a study was announced to the parliament of the Spanish region of Catalonia. The parliament voted on Wednesday a law that allows a referendum on independence from Spain.
The law is according to the Spanish government to be illegal. The Spanish law does not allow that part of the country on their own secretes.
According to the prosecutor, the members of the parliament that the law have signed a criminal offence. What the direct consequences are is not clear. The Spanish police has started an investigation, but there is still no one held.
Catalonia is an autonomous, prosperous region in the northeast of Spain, of which Barcelona is the capital. The call for separation from the rest of Spain was fueled by the economic crisis in the country.
The plebiscite is scheduled for October 1.
