Sofia Vergara may be the highest paid actress on TV, but it was not easy to get.
“It is very rewarding,” the “Modern Family” star tells Health magazine for the October issue, on Friday. “I’m 46 and I worked for almost 30 years. Thus it is not able to do something that I love in the entertainment business, and on top of that the ability to earn money? It is a wonderful experience. It has not been easy.”
“It is a lot of work, but it makes you feel rewarded for all the sacrifices — such as the lack of my son’s birthday here and there and not able to be present the entire time for him,” she adds.

For years, the Colombian actress has paved the way in the entertainment industry, the first start of her career as co-host of two shows for Spanish language television network Univision in the late 90s.

When asked how she gotten to where she is, she says: “it is important to show that you’re confident—even when you don’t know what you’re doing.

“The way you carry yourself is very important. There is nothing worse than someone who feels insecure, who talks like she’s not supposed to be there,” she explains.
“And in a business like mine, it is very easy to do it, because we’re not [run] brain surgery. I can’t walk to a doctor’s operating room simply with confidence! [Laughs] But in the entertainment business, you can do it. So, you just take a deep breath and do your best.”

One thing they don’t do is dwell on the missed opportunities. “I’m not crying about anything-a job that I didn’t get it, or a deal does not go through,” she stresses. “Well, that’s it, move on, try to find something else… because if you do not, you lose time to cry about it. So let’s not lose time!”
Vergara, however, is now at a place in her career where she can make better decisions about the jobs they take and put themselves in a healthier environment.
“After so many years, I think that the most useful thing is to realize that you must enjoy your work,” she expresses.
“It’s not worth it to deal with people who suck the energy out of you, or that are creating problems. At the beginning of your career, you should do what you need to do — but now I don’t. I don’t need to sacrifice my mental health, or time with my family, as I have a terrible time. That is one of the good things about [achieving a certain level of performance — you can make these decisions.”
For what the future holds for Vergara, she is working on a denim line for Walmart and ready for the end of “Modern Family.“
“I don’t understand why it can’t be as ‘Law & Order’. That would be a dream for me, to keep doing this forever,” she says about doing more seasons of the hit ABC comedy.
