Slovenian Aleksander Ceferin is the new president of UEFA

The Slovenian Aleksander Ceferin is elected new president of the European football association UEFA. He follows the deposed Frenchman Michel Platini.

Aleksander Ceferin took the at the elections during the extraordinary congress in Athens, with spacious ahead of Dutchman Michael van Praag: a whopping 42 of the 55 in the UEFA member states opted for the 48-year-old Slovenian.


The relatively unknown Ceferin gold advance as towering favorite, after he is in the last few weeks managed to secure the support of, among others, Germany, France, Russia and the Scandinavian countries.

All of the 55 member states of the UEFA were allowed to cast one vote. Kosovo is just as powerful as Germany. The Belgian football association (belgian football association) was supportive Of Prague.

Ceferin is of course a lawyer and is since 2011 president of the Slovenian football association. As UEFA’s president, the seventh since the founding of the organization in 1954, he deposed and suspended Frenchman Michel Platini.

He has already said that he wants the European championship from 2024 again in one country is organised. The european CHAMPIONSHIPS in 2020 will be in thirteen countries played, including Belgium – on the condition that at the time a stadium is built.
