Skippers sprint cleverly to world cup-bronze in 100 meters

Dafne Schippers Sunday night at the world CHAMPIONSHIPS in London handsome bronze conquered on the 100 metres. The 25-year-old Dutch came in 10,96 as third over the finish line. The American Tori Bowie triumphed in 10,85.

Schippers noted in the final her fastest time this WK. The Utrecht was in the series (11,08) and the semi-final battle (10,98) of the 100 metres is still a bit slower.

In the Olympic Stadium in London were all eyes, moreover, aimed at the Jamaican Elaine Thompson, but the olympic champion in the shortest sprint distance suggested disappoint with a fifth place (10.98).

Bowie captured the gold with a minimal difference its nearest attacker, Marie-Josée Ta Lou (10,86). The Ivorian was just slightly slower than the American, who last year at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro is still the silver medal in the 100 metres.

With her golden world cup-paste in London is Bowie the successor of Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, who two years ago the world title conquered in the 100 metres. The Jamaican is pregnant and you could be her global title in London, thus, not defend.

Fourth medal

For Skippers, the final ran in track nine, is the fourth world CHAMPIONSHIP medal in her career. Two years ago at the global final showdown in Beijing, she conquered still silver in the 100 metres.

With a bronze medal special Schippers for her 100 metres at the Olympics last summer. There handle the former meerkampster in addition to the medals at their home race with a fifth place.

Skippers at the world CHAMPIONSHIPS in London also participated in the 200 metres, where she favourite her world title to defend.
