Six movie recommendations for the autumn to come

A large part of the Netherlands, celebrates the coming week, half term holidays – the perfect time to go to the cinema. Of an endearing weeskindje to a bloodthirsty lion: which movies would you not miss?

Ma vie de Courgette – Claude Barras

This wonderful bittersweet French stop-motion-animation tells about a group of young children being reared in an orphanage. They all carry a hefty backpack with him – parents sit in the cell, are deported to their country of origin or are due to drink and drugs in the gutter.

Try the children the best of life, the blauwharige boy Zucchini (through whose eyes the story is told) first. With his huge ping-pong-eyes and his endearing honesty know Zucchini located directly in the heart of the viewer to nest, like the other orphans after the death of his alcoholic mother in the home to know.

Tonio – Paula van der Oest

The novel Tonio of writer A. F. Th. van der Heijden is a very personal account of the grieving process where he and his wife ended up after the sudden death of their son. Director Paula van der Oest hesitated a moment, but ventured nevertheless on a movie of the modern classic and made of the leaden story a remarkably hopeful film about mourning, an emotion that everyone in life sooner or later has to deal with.

Pierre Bokma and Rifka Lodeizen play the ravaged parents and the young actor Chris Peters creates impression as the dead son. Tonio is representing the Netherlands this year at the oscar ceremony.

Tonio got in, among others, NRC and de Volkskrant lyrical reviews, and also a writer A. F. Th. van der Heijden showed himself very happy with the result.

Prey – Dick Maas

What: Thriller

Prey is the latest film of Dutch director Dick Maas (known for, among other Art, The Lift and Saint), in which a large lion Amsterdam, the capital, on stilts. Artis-vet Lizzy (played by Sophie van Winden), receives from the police the task of keeping the beast off, but gets little help because a lot of people the story of the lion does not believe.

After a massacre in the Vondelpark saves the atmosphere, however, and voices the authorities in a British hunter (Mark Frost) to turn. The Dutch filmpers is excited about the return of Maas to the horror genre.

Dan Brown became world famous with his book The Da Vinci Code. The film, which, six years ago, the Cannes festival opened, was a big hit and brought a billion dollars. This was also true for follow-up Angels & Demons.

Now is the time for the third title in the series, Inferno, in which professor Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) once again must save the world by religious riddles to solve. This time he takes on a crazy that Dante Alighieri’s work The Divine Comedy against humanity”.

Uilenbal of Simone van Dusseldorp is the opening film of the thirtieth edition of Cinekid, the film, tv and new media festival for the youth. The film is about the 8-year-old Meral that after the move to come in contact with the mouse Piepiep.

She decides to use the creature to take on camp. That turns out to be a success; by the mouse Meral friends. The fun with the animal is of short duration: at a given moment is Piepiep by an owl mask.

Trolls (Dutch version) – Mike Mitchell, Walt Dohrn

The musical animated film Trolls is created by the men behind the popular film Shrek. As the title suggests, the story is about trolls, which a lot of music. Poppy is one of the talented musicians, but sees her development to be disturbed after her friends are caught by the dark leader King Gristle.
