Hindsight is 20/20 for Shia LaBeouf.

The 33-year-old actor expressed his gratitude at the Hollywood Film Awards in Los Angeles Sunday night for the police officer who arrested him for public drunkenness, in Savannah, ga., in July, 2017.

“I want to thank the police officer that arrested me is in Georgia, for changing my life,” LaBeouf said, according to USA Today. Some in the audience apparently laughed at LaBeouf’s comments, it would seem, not to know whether or not the “Transformers” star was trying to be funny.

An officer with the Savannah Police arrested LaBeouf – who, at the time, it was the making of the movie “The Peanut butter Falcon”,–, public drunkenness, disorderly conduct and obstruction after he has asked someone for a cigarette and she refused.

Shia LeBeouf, 33, was first arrested in Savannah, Georgia, in 2017, for disorderly conduct. On Sunday, he thanked the officer who arrested him “in order to turn my life around.”

The researchers said that the former child actor, it was chaotic, “and the use of profanities, vulgar language, and the women and children are present.” When he was told to leave, police alleged that he refused and became aggressive towards the officer, then ran to a nearby hotel to avoid arrest.

LaBeouf pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor cost of obstruction, and was ordered to pay $2,680 in fines and fees, 100 hours of community service, enroll in anger management counseling and to complete a drug and alcohol evaluation.

During the rehabilitation, which he also wrote the script for the autobiographical film “Honey Boy” — for which he is considered a breakthrough in screenwriting award at the awards show on Sunday night. In the film LaBeouf plays an alcoholic and abusive father as a child and as an actor. By Alma Har’el, the director of the film, said ” LeBeouf wrote the script and is in rehab, and in fact sent me an e-mail with the script.”

When Robert Downey Jr. presented to LaBeouf of his award over the weekend, he praised the screenplay, describing it as a “damn near perfect. He added that it was “easy, the best and bravest movie I have seen in years.”

LaBeouf also thanked his therapist and sponsor, “for saving my life,” and his parents “for the gift of my life.”

The film had its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on Friday in Park City, Utah, in January. “Honey Boy,” is set to be released Nov. 8.
