Sheriff: Pair left 2 boys in the car to get marriage license

SHREVEPORT, La. – Authorities in Louisiana say a couple was arrested on child desertion charges for leaving young children in a car while they got their marriage license at a courthouse.

A statement from the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office says a court employee warned delegates Thursday to the children uncared for.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Cindy Chadwick says deputies were looking for the owners when the 23-year-old Courtney Carroll of the Ball and the 22-year-old Garrett Poole of Pollock back to the car with their license.

Lt. Mark Gay says the car air conditioner is running. The doors were opened.

The children of the relationship of the couple was unclear.

Chadwick says family members were expected for the 10-month-old and 4-year-old boys from Child Protective Services. It was not clear whether the couple had a lawyer.
