The woman dubbed the “Serial Stowaway” for her the history of sneak on to flights without tickets unfit was supposed to stand trial by a judge on Thursday.
Marilyn Hartman appeared in court, facing various charges arising from the two January arrests — her success to board a flight to London without a ticket, and her subsequent refusal to leave Chicago O’hare Airport, after being ordered to stay away from the facility.
The judge ordered the 66-year-old to be sent to a psychiatric hospital in Elgin, after the two psychologists, an evaluation of Hartman, The Chicago Sun Times reported. The psychologists featured Hartman in the mental health system.

Dr. Christopher Cooper, a prosecution psychologist, noted that Hartman and the mental stability was “intermittent and seems to fluctuate from day to day,” according to the Chicago Sun Times. The assessments by the psychologists also stated that Hartman was a “smart woman,” but suffered from delusions and had a “preoccupation with the media’s attention.”

Hartman was held with no bond after she allegedly refused to leave the airport at the end of January, two days after she was released from prison. She was arrested earlier in January when they defeated Transportation Security Administration checkpoint at O’hare airport and boarded a British Airways flight without a ticket or boarding pass. She was caught in London.
They were confronted with a crime of theft responsible for ensuring that the trip to Britain. The charges carried a maximum penalty of seven years in prison. She was also charged with misdemeanor criminal trespassing.
The 66-year-old has made international news for its ability to duck in the past TSA checkpoints and the board of directors flights multiple times. She pulled similar stunts at least eight times in 2014. In one incident, she slipped past TSA agents and boarded a flight at Mineta San Jose International Airport to Los Angeles, according to the WLS. She was finally caught after landing in Los Angeles.
She was also arrested twice in 2015 within two months at O’hare and Chicago Midway Airport.
Hartman, who was described as pleasant by those who have met her, had a short burst during an appearance in February, scream twice when the judge spoke.
“Your client has no family?” the judge asked, that Hartman’s lawyer, Parliament Roe-Taylor replied that she did.

Hartman was previously found mentally fit, although troubled, by Cook County in the mental health services in 2015. The psychiatric overview with the diagnosis of “major Depressive Disorder in full remission, and unspecified personality disorder with Anti-Social Traits”, along with “Adjustment Disorder,” according to a probation department letter that also noted she was taking an anti-depressant.
She never married, has no children, and it is unclear why in the 1980s she changed her last name from Stable to Hartman. She has at least two brothers in the Chicago area.
