Some schools in the USA banned students from wearing backpacks in their buildings as a result of concerns about security following the recent shooting at a Florida high school, which left 17 people dead.
Schools in Florida, Illinois and Ohio have already taken steps to prevent students from bringing book bags to school, the Miami Herald reported.
Students in schools in the U.S. are excluded from wearing backpacks in the buildings of the school.
In Niles, Ohio, students are allowed to “small purses or lunch boxes” as a way to “make every student feel safe,” WKBN reported. A student was removed from Niles McKinley High School, allegedly after discussing school shootings. The school is also prohibited backpacks last year after a bomb threat.

In Manatee County, Florida, the district banned backpacks after receiving threats to “more than a dozen schools,” WFLA reported. Six people were arrested in connection with the threats.
“Students who thought it was clever or funny to take this action,” Scott L. Hopes, a member of the Manatee County School Board told WFLA. “The board of directors and management will take these threats very seriously. If you have to bring a weapon to school, you would not hang it around your neck, you would probably put it in a backpack.”
Students of Marion High School in Illinois were not allowed to bring backpacks to school. However, the school allowed students to stay in or mesh bags in their lockers. WPSD reported that some students began the run of their books in laundry baskets.

“They don’t want us to have a backpack to school. It makes it more difficult for people who carry a lot of things,” Dalton Coles, a student at the school, told WPSD.

Details after the shooting showed that the police were called to Cruz is the home of many times before the shooting. The FBI also announced the agency received a call on the hotline from an anonymous person that expressed concerns about Cruz’s erratic behavior. The bureau admitted that it is not on the tip.
The shooting has also reignited the debate about gun control after authorities said Cruz used an AR-15 in the Park to photograph.
