School official accused of offensive remarks about black people

LEXINGTON, S. C. – A South Carolina school, the board of directors who is accused of posting offensive comments on social media about black people has resigned.

WIS-TV reports that the screenshots of the Facebook comments made by an account associated with Grady V. Harmon may have been why he resigned from the Lexington County School District One Board of trustees. The screenshots included disparaging comments with regard to the socio-economic status, intelligence, and the criminal background of the Afro-Americans.

The district said in a statement that it became known Sunday, of social media comments by Harmon and officials were “deeply hurt” by them. The district says that officials met with Harmon on Monday and he submitted a resignation letter.

WIS-TV’s attempts to contact Harmon were not successful.
