Saudi Arabia condemns the American 11 septemberwet, which makes it possible for victims and survivors of the attacks, the oliestaat sue. The ministry of foreign affairs of the kingdom of Saudi Arabia is “seriously worried” about the law.
The response comes quite late, as the law Wednesday, though it was adopted.
“The degradation of the sovereign immunity has a negative impact on all states, including the United States,” according to the Saudi ministry in a statement. The saudis expressed the hope that the American congress, the law still holds back “to the serious unintended consequences arising from this could be avoided”.
The Saudi currency riyal decreased after adoption of the law has been compared to the u.s. dollar. Analysts consider the chances are not great that a lawsuit against Saudi Arabia is won, but to say that the speculation about this all have a negative impact on trade and investment.
Riyadh has always denied anything to do with the attacks on september 11, 2001, where nearly 3,000 people perished. The islamic militant group al-Qaeda for these attacks are held responsible. But already immediately after the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York and on the Pentagon emerged, there is evidence that ally Saudi Arabia was involved in the financing of the attacks, and fifteen of the nineteen hijackers came from Saudi Arabia.
