Sandler had not counted on debut for City against Rotherham

Philippe Sandler did not expect Sunday his debut for Manchester City. The 21-year-old defender was nevertheless pleased with his first speelminuten for his new club in the FA Cup match against Rotherham United (7-0).

“I had a back injury, trained on Friday only for the first time. And not even the whole session,” says Sandler in conversation with the AD.

“The final training, but I counted nowhere. Only my oldest brother was on the stand. My parents were already teruggevlogen.”

Sandler came last summer over PEC Zwolle, but could the first few months not in action due to a meniscus that he tore at the end of last season.

“I have worked very hard for. My debut album, I see it as a reward. I have enjoyed it. Or I will soon a get a chance, I don’t know. I want to first of all fully fit,” he says.

Sandler brings a tribute to Nouri

Sandler did against Rotherham United midway through the second half, Kevin de Bruyne and took remarkably enough, also his position as a controlling midfielder.

“But my future is in the centre of defence. There I play always. To be honest, I have never been on the society stood. Why now? I stood there during the trainingspartij. Passes send”, let him know.

“Since I’m here, I try to develop as a central defender. Vincent Kompany helps me enormously. I learn incredibly a lot from him.”

Sandler is wearing number 34 with Manchester City. He wants to Abdelhak Nouri honor, with whom for years he samenspeelde in the youth of Ajax.

“He wore that number always. Immediately after my arrival, I asked why. It is nice that this way you can show that you are with him sympathetic to the plight. Nigel de Jong played in his time at City with that number. Coincidence. It was me purely to Appie.”
