San Francisco theater evacuated, suspected gunman held

SAN FRANCISCO – San Francisco police say a man is in custody and a gun is recovered in a movie theater that was evacuated after officials received reports of a possible shooter. No injuries were reported.

San Francisco Police spokeswoman Officer Grace Gatpandan says authorities received a 911 call Tuesday of a person possibly armed with a gun in a movie theater in the Metreon shopping center.

She says officers responded to the shopping center in downtown San Francisco and evacuated one of the theatres “in an abundance of caution.”

Gatpandan says that the investigation is still going on and that people should avoid the area of Mission and 4th.

Testimony of Jeff Wincek tells the San Francisco Chronicle that, although the theatre was dark, he saw the glint of a gun as the man waved the gun. He says the man continued to sit, while others walked out of the theater.
