Ruby Rose has signed on to play lesbian superhero Batwoman for The CW.
Ruby Rose is making history with her latest role as Batwoman, the first openly homosexual superhero to headline a TV series.
Batwoman will be introduced in December a crossover event between the network and the other DC Comics shows, “Arrow”, “Flash” and “Stories.”
A stand-alone series about Batwoman, whose real name is Kate Kane, is in development for the 2019-20 TV season. Kane is described as a highly skilled street fighter with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind.
Rose wrote Tuesday on Instagram that she is “delighted and honored” and “an emotional wreck” over the news. As a young, gay, she never had the feeling represented on TV.
The Bat out of the bag and I am very happy and honored. I am also an emotional wreck.. because this is a dream come true. This is something I would have died to have seen it on TV when I was a young member of the LGBT community who never felt represented on the tv and felt alone and different. Thanks everyone. Thank you god.
Rose gained fame when she was cast in season three of Netflix’s “Orange is the New Black.”
