Liviu Dragnea, the president of the Romanian lower house, should be definitive a prison sentence of 3.5 years to sit out. That is, the Romanian supreme court on Monday determined.
Dragnea, who is also the leader of the social democratic party (PSD), was last year convicted of abuse of power, but fought that decision then.
The Romanian supreme court gives the lower court, however, identical, making the condemnation of Dragnea now final. He is expected to be Monday yet to actually go to prison.
The 56-year-old Dragnea, according to the court, not only his power abused, but urged others to do the same. His duties in the parliament are provisionally taken over by premier Viorica Dancila, an partijgenoot of Dragnea.
President had suspended sentence open
In april 2016 was Dragnea already a conditional sentence of two years because he was involved in electoral fraud. That conditional period is included in the sentence, that he should sit out.
