Rock band gets Normal statue in Hummelo
‘Rock band Normally gets its own bronze statue in Hummelo, the birthplace of frontman Bennie Jolink.
The image is made by artist Lia Krol, and is referred to as “everlasting dankbetoon for what they have meant for the Dutch culture in general and the countryside in particular”, says Henk Kelder, chairman of the ‘Anhangerschap’, the fan club that took the initiative to the statue.
Jolink showed Saturday during the announcement pleased. “Of course it is a huge open door to shove, but if you have your own statue, it is a huge honor. And what I especially love: I don’t have anything with that abstract stuff, but this is still ‘olderwets’ made by traditional methods.”
The statue is next year on Ascension day revealed. On this day in 1975 was the first major action of Normal in the open-air theater of Lochem.
The life-size statue depicts the four band members from the first occupancy of the Normal.
