The national Institute for public Health and the Environment (RIVM) on Monday in collaboration with Bijwerkingencentrum Lareb a hotline open for people with side effects after implants and other tools in the body are placed.

Minister Schippers of public Health said Monday in AD that by the opening of the hotline “bad implants” earlier, can be discovered and the market can be achieved.

The reason for the hotline is the scandal surrounding the breast implants of the French manufacturer Poly Implant Prothèse (PIP). An estimated over 300,000 women in 65 countries have implants in 2012, in compromise came after it appeared that the implants often cracks and leaks, with health problems as a result.

“It is good if people have somewhere to go when they have suspicions that a complaint is caused by an implant,” says Agnes Side of Bijwerkingencentrum Lareb. “So that we can early detect when something is wrong.”

Tools

Doctors and other health care providers must be able to make use of the hotline, which can also be used to report problems with pacemakers, kunstknieën or other tools in the body are placed.

The hotline is not intended to be individual complaints against a hospital or manufacturer to handle. “Can the complaints of people point to the correct place if they need help. If there is something wrong with an implant, the Inspection for Health care to occur.”
