Pop star Rihanna writes modegeschiedenis. They will be the first black woman to ever pose for the cover of the September Issue of the British modebijbel Vogue.
The September issue of Vogue is the most prestigious edition of the year. The number has four hundred pages chock-full of fashion reports and articles about the times in which we live. In its 102-year existence, the British Vogue never a black woman on the cover of the September Issue.
Also the American Vogue, with Anna Wintour at the helm, chose this year for a black covermodel: Beyoncé is photographed by Tyler Mitchell, the first black photographer who has a cover for Vogue.
“I’ve always known that Rihanna is on the cover of the September issue would ever adorn,’ says editor-in-chief Edward Enninful in an open letter. It is the first September issue of the new editor-in-chief and his choice for the black star as the covermodel is not a coincidence.
“She is a fearless muziekicoon and a businesswoman. She is a powerful mix of celebrity and fashion icon. I know no one like her. She remains, in every shoot, always Rihanna. Therein lies a lesson for all of us: how you want to dress up during a new fashion season, get inspired by Rihanna and stay yourself.’
The new September issue is from August 3 in the racks.
