CHICAGO – A judge says trial will begin this summer for a Chicago police officer charged with murder in the 2014 shooting death of black teen Laquan McDonald.
Cook County Judge Vincent Gaughan said Wednesday that he does not give a specific month that agent Jason Van Dijk is the first degree murder trial will begin, “but it’s going to be a trial this summer.” Gaughan says that he doesn’t want the bad weather keeps people from getting to the Chicago courthouse.
Van Dijk was indicted more than two years ago, after the release of the dashcam video shows Van Dijk shoot McDonald 16 times.
Also on Wednesday, defense attorneys filed a request to change the test place. They have said that a new location needed, because a fair trial in Chicago is impossible.
