Lee Zeldin, a Jewish Republican from New York, on Tuesday dismissed Rep. Ilhan Omar an apology from Israel in the last comments as disingenuous and ” problematic.’
Omar apologized on Monday for comments in which she hinted that a prominent pro-Israel lobby compensates the legislator for their support of the Jewish state, but insisted on what they called “the problematic role of lobbyists in our policy.”
“Anti-Semitism is real, and I am grateful for the Jewish allies, and colleagues that can educate me on the painful history of anti-Semitic clichés,” Omar wrote in a statement posted on Twitter. “My intention is to never offend, in my constituency, or Jewish Americans, as a whole. We must always be willing to take a step and think through the criticism, just as I expect people to listen to me when others attack me for my identity. This is the reason why I have to apologize, clearly.”
