The police in Illinois are responding to a “report of the shooter, and shots” at the Northwestern University’s Evanston campus.

“There is a report of a person with a gun in Engelhart Hall, on the corner of Emerson Street and Maple Avenue,” the university tweeted Wednesday afternoon. “The Northwestern University in Evanston, and police are on the scene. Seek shelter if in the area.”

NOW EMERGENCY: the Person with the gun on the Evanston campus. If on campus, seek shelter in a safe place and will remain until further notice. Others keep away.

There is a report of a person with a gun in Engelhart Hall, on the corner of Emerson Street and Maple Avenue. Northwestern University in Evanston, and police are on the scene. Seek shelter if in the area.

Evanston Police said that a search of the area found “no evidence of victim, scene, or the shooter” but said authorities were still searching and securing the area.

Alan Cubbage, a spokesman for the school, told the Chicago Tribune the school had received a report of a shooting in Engelhart Hall, which houses the graduate students.

The students received the message of an “emergency” at 2:40 a.m. about a person with a gun on the campus of the school student newspaper, The Daily Northwestern reported.
