Regular exercise may lead to better sperm quality
Men who regularly walk or jog on a treadmill may have healthier sperm and experience less stress.
This is evident from research that was published in The Journal of the Society for Reproduction and Fertility.
For this study, 280 middle-aged men who have little to move, for six months, followed. These men were randomly assigned to three different sportregimes or no sportregime.
One group had three to four times per week for 25 to 30 minutes per session, walking or jogging on a treadmill. Another group did this four to six times per week and 40 to 45 minutes per session. Another group did this in a short intervalperiodes with high and low intensity three times per week and 40 to 45 minutes per session. The last group trained.
There were improvements found in the semen of men who an exercise plan to follow. After six months showed this sperm have less DNA damage and was generally healthier. Also experienced these men less stress.
The men 25 to 30 minutes per session and three to four times per week trained, had the best sperm quality. They were 8.3 percent more sperm volume, to 17.1 percent improved sperm shape, 14.1% more concentrated semen and they had to 21.8 percent more sperm.
The researchers would like to stress that infertility in men can be complex and that the change of the lifestyle is not in all cases, the influence will have.
