U2 gave Saturday night a concert in the Johan Cruijff Arena, Amsterdam in the framework of The Joshua Tree Tour. The musicians get only positive reviews from critics.

Het Parool – four stars

“The notoriously poor acoustics of the Arena is U2 pretty straight in the first of two concerts there. It will also be a prachtavond, draws the persuasion of the Irish. Go to the church, we in the west already long not more, but by Bono and others let us love in religious ecstasy. (…) An integral design of an album is sometimes a tricky thing, because a on the plate logical order of songs can be at odds with the usual tension of a concert. (…) But also in the other songs of The Joshua Tree convinces U2 completely. They do of course, but the by photographer Anton Corbijn made visuals work certainly enhance the atmosphere.”

NRC – four stars

“U2 makes it not easy with the rendition of an entire album, that at the time of hatching was not intended to be integral and in this order on the podium. The Joshua Tree ahead of much of its powder in the first quarter, in which the three hit singles pass. (…) That the music of ‘The Joshua Tree’ is no great catharsis at the end and has been compensated with a parade of the later hits, Beautiful Day, Elevation and Vertigo. (…) Bono considers the public is still “his church”, he said, when he was presiding in heroic. With excerpts from songs of David Bowie, he showed his schatplichtigheid to a musical hero. Anton Corbijn he acknowledged as a “dutch master”. Corbijn gave The Joshua Tree new life-blood to an action that the nostalgia amply exceeded.”

AD – four stars

“U2 is his aura as conductor of the musical measure of things over the past decade in sprinttempo lost. The group was so uncertain of the pr-debacle with the free Apple album Songs of Innocence that the when quickly anticipated follow up to Songs of Experience still in the delivery room waiting. (…) On the livepodium is happening now, however, an opposite movement. Bono & co have themselves successfully re-invented as grootpriesters of the stadionrock. (…) As a live reinterpretation of some urgency to pass is certainly not easy, but the concert of tonight in the Amsterdam Arena did not time dated. (…) Around the trunk of the Joshua Tree formed Bono two measured klusters evergreens. And it is with the well-known radiokrakers proved to be the overwhelming live charisma of the group is once again a joy to behold.”

“The true power of U2 is on stage. The Irish band with frontman Bono proves that once again on a magical Saturday night in Amsterdam. The Arena, normally a galmbak during a concert, is being transformed into a pop temple in which U2 is a mass drop where their loyal followers to be grateful and devoutly responding to hits and to the complete execution of the succesalbum The Joshua Tree.”
