Recensieoverzicht: The XX makes with third album a new start

The new album from the XX, I see you, is well received internationally. Also the Dutch press is excited about the third album from the British trio.

I see you is Friday true.

The Volkskrant – four stars (out of five)

“A jungle-huppelritme, nice beats and a nice open sound to dominate the uitbundigste number that The xx has made. New Review – four stars (out of five)

“The wide sound of the first two is present everywhere. On most tracks, the sparse guitar sounds, the well-known echo and singing, the two men and woman with eyes closed. It’s just a little less minimalist completed, though the trio still subtle. Yes, there is plenty to pick on this third hit in a row.”

The ear gives no stars

“Horns of a synthesizer of Jamie xx called us jubelend welcome to I See You. They set the tone for what will follow: by far the most danceable album of The XX. (…) I See You is the start of a new xx-chapter, which you can hear at all. A warm blanket for the cold winter months.”

Rolling Stone – 3.5 stars (out of five)

Los Angeles Times – give no stars

“Everything The XX has to show before the third album, I see you came out, it seems to go to the idea that this ever gloomy electrosoultrio lighter (…) One thing is for sure, professional success, the romantic stress that in all music of The XX is heard, not contained.”
