Recensieoverzicht: ‘Spice Girls full of nostalgic fun at reünietour’

The Spice Girls are Friday night in Dublin at their reünietour started. What do international critics of the return of the popular meidenband? A summary of the main reviews.
Daily Mail – no stars

“The Spice Girls have previously reünietours tried, but this time they seem to be the wave of nostalgia at its peak to tackle. The love that this band still evokes is something to admire and cherish. The biggest fans seem to be women that Spice fans were when they were little girls were, a generation that for the first time came into contact with the concept of feminism and the pleasure of vrouwenvriendschap by ‘girl power’.”

“Their muziekcarrières never really came further since their heyday in the nineties. So let’s be honest. This concert was a celebration of the ‘Spice’ that fonkelde in pop history, but in the meantime, it said something about their collective perseverance. Despair, some critics say, but not for me. I was swept up in the moment.”

The Guardian – 2 stars

“They know that fans of nostalgia and want to mess with their formula. It is admirable that they didn’t like Take That with new material, that at their age fits, but continue to adhere to the quirky fun of their youthful repertoire. But just as with their reunion in 2007, three albums is not enough for a show of two hours. (…) Although our Headlines (Friendship Never Ends) saved remains, which was written for their previous reünietour, no one will need to Let Love Lead the Way, a smooth r&b album of their most recent album, Forever. The attention of the public slackened noticeably outside of the hits.”

“The only Spice Girl that does more than nostalgic cosplay is Mel C, who is on a superhero looks while they high notes wear, and the dansgedeelte perfect run.”

Irish Times – no stars

“With the introduction of Goodbye tells Geri Horner that they have that plate now to use bad times to say goodbye and to pack. The past is the past and this foursome is the way of the future.”

T”uring their discogedeelte, Never Give Up on the Good Times, and a cover of We Are Family is that point emphasized. It still feels every song – even The Lady is a Vamp, the most ridiculous – as a return to a form which we did not know we him so much had missed.”

“If we during the tour in 1998, knew that the end for the five of us was about to come, feels tonight as the start of something bigger. It feels like the closing that they should get.”

“The stage and the show contributed to the party atmosphere. Only the choreography of the dancers would be welcomed. During the show, there were multiple and drastic kledingwisselingen, but the outfits the Spice Girls performing Viva Forever was definitely the highlight. The entire production was excellent. The heat everyone seemed to hit, regardless of how far from the stage.”

“Very few artists manage to be quite a show for their audience to dance and sing, especially after being away for so long, but the Spice Girls get exactly that. Something that most artists dream of. The four girls seemed to understand, while they are enthusiastic with their feet stomped on the energy that the audience gave.”
