Recensieoverzicht Hitman’s Bodyguard: ‘Jackson and Reynolds carry a film’

The movie Hitman’s Bodyguard on Thursday in the cinema premiere was and is about a topbodyguard that a new client gets. One of the reviewers calls it ‘a wonder that Amsterdam is standing has remained’, the film is partly recorded in the capital.

AD – four stars

“Breakneck chases, the cars with great speed in the water, be driven, a speedboatrace at full speed through the canals… It is a wonder that the capital city after this film activities still stands. (…) The attraction of The Hitman’s Bodyguard is a important part in the interaction between Jackson and Reynolds. Their characters are well matched. There are mutually a few accounts open, and the attacks on both are rapidly increased. This sturdy men carry the film.”

The Volkskrant – four stars

“All the good that it is nice and sharp angle, The Hitman’s Bodyguard has to offer – refined slapstick, oldskoolactie, loosely played buddyfilmscènes, pleasant asides, in short: nonsense from large is in the design of these two characters [assassin Darius Kincaid, played by Samuel L. Jackson and bodyguard Michael Bryce, played by Ryan Reynolds, ed.]. The scenario gives Jackson and Reynolds the juiciest one-liners, who regularly refer to their image as an actor, but they understood also the art to with a single facial expression to make clear in what type of film they are up to.”

Faithful – two stars

“The spectacle is entertaining but it can use the generic plot and uninspired choices are not obscure. Of course, you can not go through the Netherlands, driving without a mill to pass and someone does something with flowers, but almost nowhere is something original. A B-movie which, thanks to the status of the actors, the jacket of a movie can attract. Soon to be a few sizes too big. (…) The only reason for a Dutch audience to see is that it is all in a recognizable backdrop playing.”

The Telegraph – no stars

“The hitman’s bodyguard is a film in which the reality hardly counts. The heroes are not destroyed, the rogues fall in droves. Of that work. The recognizable Dutch locations provide in the meantime an extra dimension to this rather ubiquitous actiespektakel. A supporting role of our national filmtrots Barry Atsma is another krentje in the pap. Although this film is primarily afloat thanks to the two leads, who as to each other scheldende opposites with a click seem to have. And ultimately for each other through the fire.”
