The 42nd edition of North Sea Jazz, Friday began with performances by, among others, Grace Jones, Joss Stone, and Usher, and The Roots. Here’s an overview of the reviews of the concert that he gave.

The Telegraph gives no stars

“Slim and supple she appeared in one after the other exorbitant outfit. She started with a golden doodshoofdmasker on, a moment later, teemed them in a tight poezenpakje the stage. Only had the musical, however, what is more exciting for us. Jones talking too much and took too often the momentum from her show. It will be the age.”

AD – three stars

“Jones oak bass voice is, if she is doing its best, still in excellent condition. But Jones, as eccentric as your distant aunt that is always already at the end of the morning, the sherry wake up and pull open, was there with her head not completely. Songs like This and My Jamaican Guy were tousled and her vocals were shaky. When Jones suspected a hidden champagne-infused, but the singer asked the audience only diet coke to drink.”

The Parool gives no stars

“Her singing is to hear that she is older, her body you hardly even see it. There are a lot of costume changes in the show, but a large part of the performance, she is as good as naked on the stage. It takes a while for everyone to realize: it is not a tight suit that she wears, she has her body let paint. Bodypaint. That dare not every woman of 69.”

The NRC gives no stars

“From the moment the stage curtain falls down, she sucks all the attention: the 69-year-old pop-diva Grace Jones, the headliner on the opening night of the North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam. Painted gives them a visually magnificent performance in which they successively a gold doodshoofdmasker, flowing headdress, and a glitterbolhoed bears, and theatre a number of her greatest hits played.”
