“Rascal,” the Bum wins the world’s Ugliest Dog Contest

In the midst of a sea of snaggleteeth, with bug eyes and a slobbery, hanging tongues, the world ” s Ugliest Dog Contest crowned a new champion.

“Rascal,” the Bum with a tunnel in its ugly head in the hearts and minds of the North carolina courts on Friday to win the $1,500 — plus an additional $1,500 to be donated to an animal shelter.

“He is a Scamp the Champ is no longer “Rascal,” the Bum,” Morones told the Santa Rosa Press-Democrat. “I think the public has had its great minds, and all that he has given back to the community.”

“Rascal” beat out 18 other dogs for the honor.

“The judges are on the lookout for a special set of attributes, such as a hanging, tongues, slobber, drool (the more the better). Maybe it’s unusual patches on the skin or in the hair,” a writer by Christy Gentry said.

Zsa Zsa, an English Bulldog, and won it in 2018 and beyond.

Scamp was a street dog in Compton, and was rescued by his owner, Yvonne Morones, 2014. He’s not just a show dog. He also makes visits to local schools and senior centers in Santa Rosa, California, usa.

“What we do is that we will have the presentation of the dogs who are rescued and adopted, and brought up in a loving home,” Gentry said. “This is a kind of the spokesdogs for the show.”
