Chipmaker Qualcomm has in the second calendar quarter of 2017, a lot less profit than a year earlier.

The company earned another 866 million dollars (752 million euro) on a turnover of 5.4 billion dollars (4.7 billion euro). This was the earnings 40 percent lower than a year earlier, and revenues 11 percent lower.

Apple, one of the major customers of Qualcomm, the company has been sued. The iPhone-maker thinks that the licensing fees for Qualcomm’s patents are too high. The company asks for a percentage of the selling price of a smartphone, allowing the licensing costs for expensive smartphones is much higher than for cheaper models, even if the exact same technologies will be used.

The companies that the iPhone contract from Apple to produce, have licentiebetalingen to Qualcomm discontinued. The chipmaker has therefore, in turn, Apple and its manufacturers again sued in different countries.

By the society decreased the income from patentlicenties with 42,5 percent to 1,17 billion dollars. The income from production of chips increased, with 5% to 4,05 billion dollars.

In a statement, says Qualcomm CEO Steve Mollenkopf to have confidence in the outcome of the litigation between his company and Apple.

Also, for the current quarter predicts Qualcomm a lower profit than analysts had expected. Think the company has a strong sales of 5.4 to 6.2 billion dollars to be able to run.
