Putin calls for Trump to face-to-face meeting with Assad
Former CIA analyst Fred Fleitz weighs.
Russian President Vladimir Putin called President Trump on Sunday, to thank him for providing intelligence that helped thwart a planned terrorist attack in St. Petersburg, that has been confirmed by the White house.
The call was confirmed, Fox News and other news outlets, which would be followed by White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders, told reporters more information on the call.
The intelligence was supposedly a CIA tip in connection to a series of planned attacks.
The Kremlin, Putin said Trump said during the interview that the information the CIA was also sufficient to track down and arrest a group of suspects was a bomb in the planning, the Kazan Cathedral and other sights in the city.
The Kremlin says the Russian leader asked to convey to Trump, his gratitude for the CIA, and said that the Russian law enforcement authorities hand over any information they get about possible terrorist threats against the United States, as they did in the past.
The call is the second call of the two leaders since Thursday.
Trump, of the ends since the beginning of his win, the 2016 presidential campaign, has spoken highly of Putin’s style of leadership and has tried to work with the Russian President about the efforts to end the years-long civil war in Syria. But the trump-presidential-campaign, is among several studies whether the campaign associates in cooperation with Moscow to influence the race.
