The organisation of Pukkelpop has announced who the Marquee opens on Thursday 16 August, the first full day of the festival. That is not a hiphop act or rock band, but a classical orchestra.

“We already have a couple of years the idea of getting something with classical music to do”, said organiser Chokri Mahassine. ‘When Bram Meese of the Ghent Crossbones Trombone Collective contact with us recorded, was the last puzzle piece in place.’

“The only genre of music that is almost never discussed during the Belgian summer festivals is classical music. As a trained classical musician and muziekleerkracht I find that, of course, very unfortunate,’adds Bram Meese added. There are collectively now so change. Together with pianist and composer Jef Neve, will they work of the Norwegian composer and pianist Ola Gjeillo and the Austrian composer Anton Bruckner, but also the avant-garde update that Max Richter gave of Vivaldi’s The four seasons and his own compositions of Neve. In total, as many as 25 musicians in the Marquee tent to open that afternoon.

Jef Neve has the desire, he says in a press release: “I have an emotional connection with Pukkelpop. To here back now invited to be with a full string orchestra and a crazy gang of trombonists, that is a dream come true. That classic also the max, will very soon become clear!’
