Crowds in San Juan firecrackers and the streets moments flooded after learning Gov. Ricardo Rosselló plans to leave office; Bryan Llenas reports.
Embattled Puerto Rican Gov. Ricardo Rosselló, former U.S. Rep. Pedro Pierluisi will nominate, as the island’s Secretary of state, make effective to lead him to the next in the series, the U.S. territory, according to Rosselló is retiring Friday, a island, a legislator said.
Rep. José Meléndez rotated said word Pierluisi nomination, the legislator was released by the President of the island-the house of representatives. To meet the legislators were asked, in a special session.
Pierluisi, 60, was defeated by Rosselló 2016 primaries for the pro-statehood New Progressive party. He served previously as the island’s non-voting representative in Congress from 2009 to 2017.

If approved, Pierluisi will be poised to be the next Governor after Rosselló renounced his post after a mushrooms scandal and two weeks of protests demanding his sacking. It is not clear whether Pierluisi, the support of members necessary for the confirmation.
Meléndez rotated, and the other members of the Rosselló’s party have said that they will not vote in his favor, because he works for a San Juan-based firm, which is financed for the Federal control board-monitoring of Puerto Rico.

“This is a serious conflict of interest,” said Meléndez rotated.
Wanda Vazquez, the Secretary of the justice and Rosselló ally, was the next in line to rule the island, but said on Wednesday that she did not want to do the job, after protesters made known, she would not have her again.
After Puerto Rico, in order of succession, the Secretary of state is next in line to be the Governor.
Rosselló of the upcoming exit follows two weeks of protests inspired by the leakage of crude and offensive online chats. The conversations, which allegedly saw Rosselló taunt the victims of hurricane Maria, women, political opponents and homosexuals.

The island is the former Minister of foreign Affairs Luis G. Rivera Marín, came soon after the news to the public.
The scandal, along with the arrests of former officials in an FBI corruption probe that galvanized the island, with many calling for an end to the years-long corruption and crippling austerity measures. The legislature is trying to restructure billions of dollars in debt from the island, and secure assistance for the recovery of the 2017 hurricane.
