Seventeen construction workers, engineers, and contractors in Albania are responsible for the high death toll from the powerful earthquake struck at the end of november, in which 51 people lost their lives. The Public Prosecutor’s office in Albania, and has arrest warrants issued against them.

The charges range from murder to ambtsmisdrijven. Among the arrested are two of the hotel owners, whose hotels are in the earthquake collapsed. The two buildings would be illegal to have occurred, it appears from the police investigation.

The balkan country was on the 26th of november, hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4, according to the authorities, the toughest in decades.
The epicentre was around 30 kilometres south-west of the capital, Tirana, and at a depth of 10 km. The shock was reflected in, inter alia, Tirana and the nearby port town of Durrës.
Nine hundred men were killed or wounded, and certainly more than 14,000 people were losing their homes. The Albanian authorities are to investigate in addition, there are many other houses to see whether or not the earthquake-safe places in which to live.
Rescue came late due to the massive damage that had been done. A large number of buildings had collapsed and many roads had cracks.
