The Mozambican president Filipe Nyusi fear that in his country especially thousands of deaths as a result of the cyclone Idai that the past few days about the country is drawn.
“The next few days is much more rainfall is expected. It would not surprise us if the number of victims to over a thousand injured,” said Nyusi.
The city of Beira is largely destroyed by the cyclone. Reports that the international federation of Red Cross and Red crescent societies (IFRC), that a team has been sent to the city with approximately 530.000 inhabitants.
The professionals say that the roads to Beira are blocked by floods. They used to own a helicopter for the final part of their journey. “The situation is terrible. The scale of the devastation is enormous”, says the head of the team in a statement. “It seems that 90 percent of the area has been completely destroyed.”

The storm came in last week to land in Mozambique, and reached later also neighbouring Zimbabwe. News agency AFP calculated that in Mozambique a total of at least 68 people were killed by the tropical storm. The death toll in Beira is at 55. In Zimbabwe, fell definitely 89 dead.
The IFRC team in Mozambique speaks about dramatic situations. “Almost everything is destroyed. Lines of communication are completely lost and roads have been swept away. Some affected communities are not reached,” said the team leader.
