‘Pregnant’ woman’s ‘baby bump’ was actually the growth of cancer cells

A british woman who thought she was pregnant for weeks, and was devastated to learn of her unborn baby was in fact a cancerous growth.

The weeks of her pregnancy, Grace is a Baker-Toad, 23, began vomiting, and noticed her stomach began to swell, symptoms were considered a normal part of pregnancy.

At 12 weeks, Grace went in for a scan, a time in which the doctors made an alarming discovery. The doctors performing the scan at the University Hospital of North Durham and saw that it was not a baby to form inside her, the fullness of Grace, that the partner is Joe Hood, 28, told the Daily Mirror.

“It looked like a bunch of grapes,” said Joe of the image.

The doctors later confirmed in Grace, and to be suffering from a molar pregnancy, which is caused when an abnormal fertilised egg implants in the uterus, according to the Mayo Clinic. A molar pregnancy is rare, occurring in only 1 in every 1,000 pregnancies.

“A molar pregnancy can have serious complications including a rare form of cancer, and the need to be in the early stages of treatment,” the Mayo Clinic says.

Symptoms include vaginal bleeding, severe nausea and vomiting, “grapelike” ovarian cysts, and pelvic pressure or pain, among other signs.

The disease is caused by Grace hormone levels rise, causing her body to mimic pregnancy, according to the Daily Mirror.

“It was quite a shock. The planning of an exciting new future as a family is suddenly not a baby, and that my health is in danger, it was awful,” Grace told the publication. “We want to get out of expecting a baby is to have the C-word thrown about. We were both very upset.”

“I just wanted to get on to the hideous mass of me right away,” she added.

The doctors successfully removed the malignant mass, but that the Grace was being forced to undergo chemotherapy for months after the procedure. She was declared to be cancer-free in December.

“The relief was unbelievable. We just wanted to be normal again, and was planning on going for a vacation,” she said.

The couple still hopes to have a baby one day, but Grace said that she and Joe have to wait for at least a year before you try it. There is also a chance that she could be suffering from a molar pregnancy, again, according to the Daily Mirror.

“We have been afraid to try again, after what happened,” she said. “We’ll have to wait a little while.”

Grace Baker-Toad does not immediately return Fox News’ request for additional comment.
