TUCSON, Arizona. – Authorities in southern Arizona say a pregnant woman who was shot and killed in her sleep when someone opened fire on her house, but the doctors were able to save her from the baby.
The Tucson Police Department says in a press release that a number of others in the house were sleeping when they woke up around 4:30 a.m. Saturday to the sounds of the 19-year-old Jasmine Vega scream.
Arriving officers found her unconscious and the fire department took her to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Doctors safely delivered her baby, which the police says is treated in the hospital.
No other details about the newborn’s condition were given.
Police say indications are multiple shots were fired in the house and they are investigating if anyone within is deliberately focused.
No suspects have been named.
