Two precious paintings are after seventeen years found in Leeuwarden. The police stumbled upon the two works of the painters Isaac Israëls and Wouterius Verschuur, after investigation, in a shed of a 37-year-old resident of the city.
The man was arrested on suspicion of illegal possession of firearms.
The two paintings are in a violent robbery in Bilthoven in 1999 loot. In total there are then seven works stolen, five of which were in 2012 found. There has yet to be officially determined whether the paintings are genuine. “But the opportunity is great, because it is otherwise too much of a coincidence that the paintings together are found,” said the police.
The value of the two paintings is estimated at a few tons.
The 37-year-old man is still stuck. A 24-year-old Rijswijker that during the arrest with him in the car, was released.
