Prado borrows painting of El Greco at New Church Amsterdam
Prado Museum in Madrid borrows the New Church in Amsterdam Pentecostés El Greco, a work that, especially in Spain working painter in the 1600 devoted to Pentecost.
The work is a later part of the sixth edition of the series The Masterpiece. From 18 February it will be seven weeks to see, in a reconstruction on canvas of the altar where it ever was part of.
The altar was in 1600 in Madrid dedicated and in 1814 removed by the then still active Inquisition, who looked or anything religious or ‘pure’. On the altar, philippines seven works by El Greco, which Pentecostés there was one. Each painting showed an episode from the life story of Jesus.
The Inquisition found the altar not by the bracket, which it was dismantled. Six parts were in collections go, one is still looking. In Spain was in 2001, a reconstruction is made.
