Possible illegal immigrant, brandishing machete, accused of trying to abduct children at Louisiana Walmart

A possible illegal immigrant armed to the teeth with a machete, a homemade shiv, and pepper spray is accused of trying to sweep two babies of mothers who during a few terrifying encounters at a Louisiana Walmart, police say.

Billy Yoe Budier-Herrera, 33, of Metairie, for the first time at a Walmart in Kenner on Friday afternoon and told a mother to her 2-year-old child that they would be killed if they do not follow his instructions, according to the Kenner Police Department.

The frightened mother tried to run away, but Budier-Herrera blocked her and swung a machete for telling the mother her son would die if she did not obey him, police said. A struggle ensued as Budier-Herrera allegedly tried to snatch the boy from the mother to the shopping cart. However, the woman was able to safely to her child behind a deli counter and Budier-Herrera fled after she called for help, and store employees intervened, police said.

During the walk through the store, Budier-Herrera began swinging the machete to scare off the Walmart employees and tried to grab another child from the child seat of a shopping cart, police said. But a seat belt reportedly avoid Budier-Herrera from thieves the child.

The chaos reportedly ended as Budier-Herrera was tackled by Walmart employees and an off-duty Kenner police officer who was in the shop.

The police says that they have a homemade shiv on Budier-Herrera, which was made of a plastic handle with razor blades stuck, as well as a 10-inch machete and pepper spray.

He was charged with two counts each of second-degree kidnapping of a child, aggravated assault, illegal transport of weapons and one count of disturbing the peace.

Budier-Herrera was also charged with an immigration detainer no bond was for him.

Kenner police say that a number of customers included mobile phone footage of the incident and ask them to come forward.
