Portugal and Luxembourg complain to UEFA about naturalized Oekraïner

Portugal and Luxembourg have filed a complaint with UEFA about the influence of Júnior Moraes in Ukraine. They pull the speelgerechtigdheid of the Brazil-born attacker is in doubt.

“After a protest from the unions of Luxembourg, and Portugal is a disciplinary procedure set in motion”, reports the UEFA Wednesday night in a brief statement.

Moraes made his debut last week on Friday as a substitute in the away game against Portugal (0-0) and did a quarter of an hour. Three days later he played the full match against Luxembourg (1-2 win).

The 31-year-old Moraes, with 21 hits this season, top scorer of the Ukrainian league, was shortly before the match against Portugal a Ukrainian passport and was immediately called up by national coach Andriy Shevchenko.

The rules require that a player is eligible for another passport if he has at least five consecutive years in another country has lived. Moraes plays since 2012 in Ukraine, but in 2017 a short time leased to the Chinese Tianjin Quanjian, in which he is only three matches played.
