Pope Francis has Tuesday in his annual kersttoespraak, urbi et orbi, called for reconciliation in places torn apart by conflict. He has explicitly spoken about peace in Yemen and Syria.
The pope was in on the situation in war torn Syria. “May the international community to resolutely work towards a political solution, so that the Syrian people, especially those who are forced their own country to leave and elsewhere, their refuge, to return to their own country to live in peace,” said Francis. Also hopes to the pope that the peace talks between the Palestinians and Israel can quickly be resumed.
“We need our differences as a source of richness instead of as a danger,” said the pope. In the speech, he called for “fraternity between people with different ideas. The man should be able to listen and each other to accept”.
He was referring to the polarization of migration and said that God is “love, acceptance, and respect for humanity will, in a world that we share with people of different origins, with different cultures and languages”.
Traditionally, tens of thousands of people the message to 12.00 heard on the St. Peter’s square in Vatican city. The pope concluded his message, as usual, with the blessing of “merry christmas” and the blessing urbi et orbi, for the city and for the world.
