GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas – Police say a North Texas woman falsely reported that her car was stolen with her 10-month-old baby in so that the police would be more quickly looking for her missing vehicle.
Grand Prairie police say an Amber Alert was issued after Margarita Levrie contacted the authorities about the theft. Officers later determined the car was stolen, but that no child was inside. The police says Levrie not have a 10-month-old child.
She was jailed and charged with making a false police. The Amber Alert on Saturday has been cancelled.
Police believe Levrie made of the story, in the hope that the government would soon follow her missing car. Her car has not yet been found.
Police Chief Steve Dye says that he will not tolerate improper spending of money and resources, or to redirect the resources of people who really need them.
