MEMPHIS, Tennessee. – Police in Tennessee say a woman is charged with transporting two young children in pet kennels in her vehicle.
News outlets report 62-year-old Leimome Cheeks was charged with two counts of child endangering.
According to a Memphis police affidavit, Cheeks says that there was no room in her vehicle Saturday, so she told the children in the age group of 7 and 8 get in the kennels.
There were no air conditioning vents in the rear of the vehicle and the children told the police that they were warm. The temperatures in the area reached about 95 degrees Fahrenheit (35 degrees Celsius).
Cheeks was held on Sunday in the Shelby County Jail. The jail records do not indicate if Cheeks is a lawyer who has comments to make about the costs.
