TAMPA, Florida. – Police in Tampa say a burglary suspect threw a burning accelerant on an officer and a police dog before he was shot by that officer.
The police says Officer Tim Bergman feared for his life when he opened fire on 40-year-old Joey Antonio Kennedy in a house Thursday.
Police were responding to a report of a burglary in progress when they were confronted with the suspect.
The police says the police dog Indo “busy” Kennedy who threw a burning accelerant on the dog and Bergman, before they are shot.
Kennedy, who is known to the police and wanted on outstanding warrants, was taken to a hospital in critical condition. Bergman was not evil, but K9 Indo was burned.
Bergman, a 12-year department veteran, was on the standard paid leave while the shooting is investigated.
