BROOKHAVEN, Miss. – Authorities in Mississippi say that a suspect is in custody after eight people were killed in a shooting, including a sheriff’s deputy.
Mississippi Bureau of Investigation spokesman Warren Strain said the shooting happened at three separate houses Saturday night in the rural Lincoln County. Two of the homes are in Brookhaven and one in Bogue Chitto. The area is approximately 68 miles (109 km) south of Jackson, the capital.
Strain said investigators were collecting evidence on all three locations.
Tribe said the costs have not yet been filed against the defendant and that it was “premature” to talk about a motive.
It was not clear whether the suspect knew his victims before allegedly killing them.
