HERNDON, Va. – Police in Virginia say an officer shot and killed a man who shot two others and held a hostage barricaded in a house, even after the fire.
Fairfax County Police Department spokeswoman Julie Parker told reporters Monday afternoon after the house in Herndon, a suburb of Washington, went down in flames that firefighters were unable to enter, because the man continued shooting inside.
Parker says officers spoke by phone with the suspect as the fire intensified. The police says that when the suspect opened the front door, an officer shot him. The suspect was pronounced dead at a hospital.
The fire department then brought the fire under control.
Parker says the hostage was treated at the scene and the other two men who were shot were hospitalized.
