RILEY TOWNSHIP, Michigan. – Police say a 73-year-old woman was killed by a stray bullet that apparently came in her house of a neighbor, the target group of the practice in rural Michigan.
Michigan State Police say Shirley Pfeil, the man told me that they crashed Sunday shortly after he heard a “loud bang.” He says that she was shot, while in the kitchen of their home in Riley Township, about 45 miles (72 kilometers) northeast of Detroit.
Police say a 21-year-old man was shooting at a berm on his nearby property. The police says he is cooperating with investigators.
The St. Clair County prosecutor is expected to review the case once the police investigation. Lt. Dave Kaiser says target practice is not illegal or uncommon in the environment, but people should ensure that they shoot in a safe direction.
