SILVER SPRING, Md. – Authorities in Maryland have released the name of a police officer who fatally shot a man during a physical confrontation.
The Montgomery County Police Department in a statement Tuesday identifying the officer Anand Badgujar. He has about two years with the department and has been placed on administrative leave.
Badgujar on Monday fatally shot by an unknown black man who police chief J. Thomas Manger says, was the “battle” in a parking lot of a townhouse community in Silver Spring.
The police have not released the dead man’s name.
It is not yet clear what led to the deadly altercation. The agent had come to the area on an unrelated call. Manger, says the man who was shot “several times” was apparently unarmed.
Investigators are reviewing video of Badgujar on the body-worn camera.
