CENTERVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the death of a woman which was recorded for the wrapping of a belt around her neck several times to be transported, in handcuffs, on the back of a patrol car.
The GBI tells news outlets 31-year-old Ashley Montine Gaultney died on Sunday, about three weeks after her arrest in Centerville.
J. T. Ricketson with the GBI says a camera in the car included its manipulation of the seat belt and wrapping it around her neck three times, while the officer was with her at the prison.
Ricketson says the officer called an ambulance. He is not accused of excessive use of force.
Houston County District Attorney George Hartwig will decide what to do after his office gets the AEI’s full report.
Gaultney is survived by five children and a fiancee.
