BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Authorities say a disgruntled employee killed a nurse supervisor and wounded another medical worker before killing himself in a hospital in Birmingham, Alabama.
Police say the 63-year-old nurse manager Nancy Swift, was shot dead at UAB Highlands on Wednesday night.
The say that another employee injured, but survived. Authorities described the gunman as a disgruntled employee who then turned the gun on himself.
Authorities did not release the names of the injured person or the suspected shooter. The hospital said one of them was a contractor, but would not say which.
UAB Highlands is a campus of UAB Hospital, part of the medical school of the University of Alabama in Birmingham.
Officials say metal detectors were in use, but they do not explain how the shooter entered the building with a gun.
